It has been just over a fortnight since mountaineer Bimla Negi Deoskar returned from her latest feat of scaling the 21,631-foot Mt Manirang in Himachal Pradesh. The expedition was organized by Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) to commemorate silver jubilee of Indo-Nepalese women’s Everest expedition of 1993 led by Bachendari Pal. “This has been a very special occasion as nine of us who were part of the 1993 expedition came together once again,” Deoskar, who led this expedition, told TOI.
Why was Mt Manirang selected for this expedition?
As the leader of the team, I was given a choice of three mountains and I picked this one for its height which is neither too less or excessive. I had to consider the fitness level of senior members some of who are not very active now. Besides this, the climb though tiring is not very technical which helped the younger members, a couple of who were climbing for the first time.
